Can't believe it, PreK in January!

Yesterday Aaron took the day off to be able to attend Sage's preschool meeting with us. As you all know Aaron's job is not flexible so for him to do that was such a treat. It's so nice for him to be apart of things that I would otherwise do by myself. We got to meet Sage's teacher Maria Moore and see his classroom and talk about his schedule, yearly goals and her curriculum. He'll be starting January 5 and he is in the afternoon class five days a week from 12:50-3:20. Along with Ms. Maria being a speech pathologist Sage will also have out of class speech therapy for a half an hour of that time for one on one.

Her class is amazing! She has something she calls Dramatic Play Centers where throughout the year she creates nine different centers that tie into the thematic units that will be taught. This offers the children the opportunity to work on a variety of important academic, language and social skills, while at the same time helping them to make sense of the world around them. Examples are: My Family, My community (Fire Station) My Five Senses (Bakery) Animals Everywhere (Pet Shop). She makes these as authentic as possible and asks for donations from parents whether it be old magazines, paper plates, plastic spoons etc. So I already have my bag of donations to take along for Sage's first day. We all know most teacher pay out of their own pockets for things so I'm looking forward to help out in anyway I can.

Another amazing thing is Parent Training. Because most children in Sage's class have a speech delay, or some type of learning disability there are classes offered to the parents to get involved in ways to help our children in different aspects of their life. Babysitting is provided while the training takes place and home visits follow after each parent training session. I can't get over how amazing Ronald Regan Elementary School and the Early Childhood Special Education Preschool program is.

Since we began the Early Start program with Sage when he was two the Lord has seen of through and has answered all of our prayers. We are so blessed to have all of these resources for Sage and we are overjoyed to watch him grow and learn. Our baby is starting preschool and it is most defiantly bitter sweet. Sage is such an amazing, bright, loving child and the selfish side of me wants him to stay little forever but I know we have so many wonderful things in his life to look forward to. Here's to a wonderful school experience for Sage, Mommy and Daddy love you!
