Preschool Evaluation

Today I took Sage to his preschool evaluation. I know it sounds so official ...When Sage turned two he started with the Early Start Program and the Creative at home network as well as seeing a speech therapist to help him with his speech delay. This program has been wonderful and so informative and I cannot say enough wonderful things about it and everyone that has helped Sage every step of the way.

We have been looking around at preschools and even thinking of the idea of me home schooling. There are so many choices and as a parent you want so badly do what's best for your children. One of the things that this program does is send information to our school district to assign a speech therapist and to get Sage ready for his transition into preschool and making sure he is in the best possible classroom setting for his needs. So today we meet with three women from the Desert Sands Unified School District. A speech therapist, school psychologist and a school nurse. They asked me various questions and interacted with Sage to see how he responded and engaged with them. They all three agreed it is only a delay in speech. Cognitively he is way above where he needs to be. This comforted my heart because our family knows how bright Sage is and he doesn't need to talk to let anyone else see that but it was definitely nice to hear they all felt the same way just after meeting him for the first time. They all also felt that although home schooling is wonderful Sage needs to be around other children more which is a huge aspect of getting him to talk.

So our little man will be going to Ronald Reagan Elementary School in Palm Desert. He starts January 5th! I can't believe the time is almost here. Also his teacher came very highly recommend and is even a speech pathologist! How awesome is that. We'll go to meet her and take a tour of the school and classroom in December. I am so excited and so much more at ease with everything now. It all worked it's self out.

Hi Danielle! I'm so glad you're at peace with the whole schooling situation with Sage. That must be so comforting and so exciting to enter into the next step of his life!
